The Workshop "Marolas and Repiques" is a Seki Method Workshop, OPEN TO EVERYONE
In this dance workshop we will prepare the body, learn basic exercises of two of the core principles of The Seki Method and apply it in improvisation tasks. This learning process is open to everyone who wants to befriend their bodies in movement or to deepen their dance praxis.
In Brazilian Portuguese, marolas are small, soft waves—gentle ripples on the surface of the sea. Repique is a type of drum commonly used in samba music, known for its role in “repicar,” which means to mark or isolate rhythmic points between the sounds of other instruments.
We will draw inspiration from these two words and their qualities to explore key principles of the Seki Method of dance— ‘The Body as a Water Bag’ and ‘Isolations’.
